EVENT: Annual Winter Ball 

BRIEF: To create a Moulin Rouge themed show to entertain guests in-between dinner courses.  

 

Every year at the barracks the resident battalion throw a winter ball in the officers mess and when James came to us with a Moulin Rouge theme we knew this was going to be a great party. They wanted 3 ten minute performances spread throughout the evening to break up the dinner service and we were told that later on, the guests would all be expecting to ‘party’!  

We like to add a little extra where possible so we also suggested a glitzy meet & greet from our dancers and an exciting call to dinner parade led by our dholl drummers to help move the guests seamlessly from one room to the other. James and his team loved this idea so we got to work on creating their evening’s entertainment. 

 

Moulin Rouge is a great film for a party theme and combined with the history of the famous 19th Century Paris cabaret venue ‘The Moulin Rouge’, there is a rich mix of classic and current to draw inspiration from. We worked on creating choreography and costumes that would not only echo the vintage 1800’s but would also bring things bang up to date and add a touch of glamour. When selecting the music for the show, it was important that we chose songs from the film, that are well-known and that the audience could connect with.  

 

The evening began with a drinks reception and our stunning Moulin Rouge Showgirls, Can Can dancer and ‘Lady of the night’ characters circulated the room, posing for photos with guests. Right on cue, our dholl drummers began an exciting drum performance, soon evolving into a thronging parade with all of our performers who encouraged the guests into the main room where they joined their tables for dinner. 

 

The main show was an exciting mix of the biggest hits from the film. Our singer and dancers kicked off with the classic song  ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ , the drummers picked up the speed with ‘If you can can can’ and everyone joined in an uplifting finale which saw guests up on their feet and immersing themselves in the atmosphere. Spirits were high and the guests danced the night away.
